Katherine Ginsburg Kempany is a Research Scientist and Research Operations Manager working with the Oregon Department of Corrections. Dr. Kempany holds a Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice specializing in institutional and community corrections and quantitative research methods from Arizona State University, and a Master of Science degree from Portland State University. She has a wealth of experience working with and analyzing criminal justice agency administrative data, has served as a project manager and social scientist on various externally-funded grant projects, and is considered a subject matter expert in the area of correctional officer stress and wellness. Dr. Kempany works to elevate the quality of research that occurs daily within criminal justice agencies by focusing on providing actionable information to policy and decision makers. Wholeheartedly embracing her identity as an “agency academic” and social scientist, Dr. Kempany operates under the professional mission (and dream) that her work will improve the lives of those who live and work within the criminal legal system.
Benjamin Rathbun is the former executive director of the Michigan Lupus Foundation and has been in non-profit work since 1987. He worked as a youth pastor, senior pastor and the vice-president of Healthy Food Bank of Michigan in the past and has been a board member of Camp Sparta in Sebring, Florida. His passions are his four children and his community where he strives to be a positive impact on the lives of underserved people.
Steve was born and raised in Washington DC area. He received his BS in Hotel/Motel Restaurant Management from Shepherd University. Steve has been working in the restaurant industry since 1987 within various corporate capacities. He moved to Michigan in 2001 with his wife where he has established his family and has been blessed with three kids. In 2003 he opened Sparkies Kitchen & Bar, then the Burger Joint in 2008, followed by Stella's Table in 2018 and Union 212 in 2019. His company and people are focused and dedicated on adding real value to the communities they serve. Since the opening of Sparkies, Suser Restaurant Group has donated over half a million dollars to local charities.
